Children’s Art Classes
Thursdays : February 20th – 26th March 4.00-5.30pm
$145.00 including all materials
Casual attendance is welcome – $30 per class including materials.
During this six week series of children’s art classes children will learn a different art technique each week, and by the end of the course will produce six beautiful and unique artworks reflecting their creativity and the skills they have learnt during the course.
Art is a great developer for kids – it teaches them to think creatively (outside the box), refines motor skills, aids in spacial skills, overlaps with maths and develops communication and social skills – what’s not to love!
Week 1 : Mosaics – design and create a mosaic picture.
Skills learnt – what is mosaics?, how has it been used in architectural art history?, creative design, practical mosaic skills (materials used, etc)
Week 2 : Weaving – construct a circular cardboard frame and create a colourful weaving.
Skills learnt – what is weaving?, different methods of weaving, simple construction and design methods.
Week 3 : Mixed Media – Fine liner drawing and watercolour based on the artist Paul Klee
Skills learnt – what is mixed media?, explore different materials, learning about artists, how to use different materials together.
Week 4 : Mixed Media & Papermache – Add pastel highlights to the week 3 project; create a series of three papermache bowls.
Skills learnt – more exploration of mixed media, what is papermache?, what are the different uses for papermache, using recycled materials, using moulds to create three dimensional shapes, practical application of skills.
Week 5 : Design – develop decorative designs for the papermache bowls and apply them using a range of different mediums.
Skills learnt – how to create designs for a three dimensional object, exploring different materials to create designs, application skills.
Week 6 : Collage – create a ‘cubist’ collage using a range of materials inspired by Picasso.
Skills learnt – What is collage?, What is “cubism”?, exploring different materials to create collage, learning about artists, application of collage methods.
